Conferences- I look forward to meeting with each of you this week! At Addison we conduct student-led conferences so please have students attend with you. Health- It is Red Ribbon Week and we will be studying the effects of drugs and alcohol. If you would like to have a dialogue with your child at home, here is the topics we will look at day by day. Monday- Tobacco Tuesday- Illegal Drugs Wednesday- Alcohol Thursday- How to say "NO" Math- We will continue to practice our Times Tables-focusing on 2's, 5's, and 10's. We will start working on 3's and 4's times tables next week. At school we learn strategies and patterns for the times tables, but at home I would like for the students to be working on memorizing the facts with flash cards or computer games. We will also be working on one and two step word problems involving multiplication and division. Please encourage your child in doing their homework to always answer a word problem with a complete sentence that answers the question of the word problem. Science- We will be talking about Weathering and Erosion this week and will have a test on Friday. The students will bring home a study sheet on Wednesday. Students will be responsible for knowing how wind, water, ice, and plants changes rocks and soil through weathering and erosion. Important Vocabulary: Weathering: the breaking down of rocks by wind, water, ice and plants. Erosion: the washing away or movement of pieces of rocks, sediment, and soil by wind or water. Reading is being incorporated into health and science this week because of the shortened schedule. Reminder: This week is early release. The school day will end and students will go to the buses or other transportation at 12:15.
