www.khanacademy.org/math/arithmetic-home/multiply-divide/properties-of-multiplication/v/order-doesn-t-matter-when-purely-multiplying (this link has many resources for all of the properties. Associative Property: 5 x (3 x 4) = 4 x (5 x 3) Factors can be multiplied regardless of how they are grouped. Distributive Property: A number in a multiplication problem can be broken down or distributed to make the multiplication problem easier to solve. 13 x 7 = (10 x 7) + (3 x 7) The 13 is broken down into 10 and 3. 13 x 7 = (70) + (21) 13 x 7 = 91 Commutative Property: The product of a multiplication problem does not change when the factors are in a different order. For example: 6x7=42 or 7x6=42 Writing- We have chosen topics and will begin a rough draft on our personal narratives this week. We will continue to learn about using dialogue, transitions, and descriptive language to enhance our writing. Reading- We are Using the book Who Was Paul Revere to continue to learn to ask and answer questions as we read informational text and to answer questions supporting our answers with information found in the text. We will begin studying Paul Revere next week in Social Studies. Social Studies- We kicked off our study of the branches and levels of government with the school-wide mock election today. This week we are focusing on learning the names of the 3 branches of government (Executive Branch, Legislative Branch and Judicial Branch) and the levels of government (National, State, and Local). We will build on this knowledge further in 3rd and 4th quarter. Test on Friday. Students will only be required to know the names of the branches and levels.
